OBSERVE. LEARN
I find this subject so interesting, and important, that I found myself in a light research phase, and thinking about it constantly, ever since I saw it on the website. I think I started by reading about a bunch of different educational systems and how they work in different European countries. I got overwhelmed. My thoughts from before were confirmed, education in most countries is a slow and heavy system, in desperate need of reform. I decided to focus on Sweden, as I was based here, and it would be easier to reach out to people in that sector.
Still, a narrowed down area of focus was needed, so I paused the reaching out part and started to learn more about the educational system in Sweden, what I could find about current legislations, and exploring how the Swedish system is organized. I also went through some incentives for reforms on the European level, and took my time with it. Most of all, I listened to a bunch of talks from educational experts and fell in love all over again with Sir Ken Robinson.

THINK. FUSE. CHOOSE
It became clear that I was to direct my efforts toward the people working in education. The focus was teachers as caregivers. The central question: What do caregivers need as support, for their own well-being and to provide better care to the students, and to create a safe space and fertile ground for learning?
EXPAND
And so I continued researching and went on asking around. This time, I reached out to a couple of people I knew were teachers or student assistants in Stockholm. I’ve asked about why they choose this profession, how they feel teaching, what are the pain points in their profession, their needs, how they’ve changed with years of working in schools and what would help them to inspire them, etc.

I’ve started to combine these insights with practices that I use, continue to explore, yet also know quite well – yoga, therapy and nurturing the state of presence with awareness. I started with an idea of a mindfulness app, developing and adapting the idea of care to be used as a part of the schooling system, providing support to the teachers through stress management techniques, inspirational way of dealing with x and y, and also through the community part of the app where feedback and reflections from the community of caregivers would be possible. I’ve called it — The Teacher’s Well.
